SPOKEN HISTORY- (Intern-6 months)

We at the Pakistan Chowk Community Centre are looking for young talented students/graduates who are passionate about our vision; to bring back arts and culture within Karachi’s old town.

An important component of this vision is hoped to be accomplished through our Spoken History Project- Ghair Sarkari Tareekh. Through this, we hope to record and archive the stories and memoirs of people that are or have been associated with Karachi’s old town. We call it Ghair Sarkari, which loosely translates into state-less; because we want an archive that will remember and preserve the stories of the people who lived through different changing eras of the area, moving away from relying on the history that is written by the victors.

The project has been in motion since July 2017, and we now want a passionate individual who can supervise it and take it further.

Position Title: Supervisor-Spoken History Project

Qualifications: Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply. Students who can promise to engage with the project along with their studies can also be considered. Preference will be given to Social Sciences and Liberal arts students/graduates with an interest in history and heritage preservation. The candidate should be fluent in English and Urdu and should be able to communicate with a diverse set of people; having the strength and agility to lead a team.

Candidates should also be well-versed in the area’s geography since the job requires them to navigate through diverse areas of the city.

The job also requires basic knowledge of MS Office and of operating technical apparatus; such as a voice recorder. Photography skills will be considered a plus.
